A Shout Out

Last night I had the pleasure of filling in to teach a group of paralegal students at UNC's Paralegal Certificate Program.

I could tell most, if not all, were going to school at night in addition to having full time jobs and maybe even families. Some ate dinner as they listened, some came to class straight from their "day jobs". I can relate. Although I had not started my family yet, I put myself through paralegal school, worked and lived on PB&Js and Raman Noodles for a while.

So a quick shout out to them for their dedication to themselves and for choosing a great profession!

  1. I can remember when I worked full-time as a legal secretary and attended the local community college's paralegal program at night - with bologna sandwiches and occasionally, crayons and my 4-year old daughter in tow. (In the old days before liability insurance dictated no children on campus.) We'd sit in the back, and she'd color without saying a word. I can't believe she didn't turn out to be a paralegal since I started her out so early in life :P

But when I was a paralegal instructor, I adored my working adult students. They were focused and hungry for the career change - and always prepared for class.
